2010 was the surely the first of many Cornhole Classic's the Weavers will be attending. After a good night's rest, the 10:00 am start was quickly approaching. As we strolled up to the Plantation with high hopes, a Big Bobber filled with drinks, and a purse full of sunscreen, we were confident in our bean tossing abilities after weeks of no practice. The "Cornhole Classic' is a Dreams Come True fundraising event put together by some friends of ours, and probably some others as well, considering it was rather organized. Along the grassy knoll there were 10+ competition board sets, lots of water, and Bono's BBQ. Even the old slip and slide made an appearance.
It was a great event with a good turnout, considering it was a little warm. It was a double elimination tournament and we finished at 2-2 after a quick start on a board made of smooth laquer and high-gloss paint. Not exactly ideal for a playing surface....brilliant. Some friends of ours, Will and Liz accompanied us to this event and performed quite well. That was expected considering Liz's grandfather patented the first cornhole board, and Will played both in college and semi-professionally in Honduras.
For me the quote of the day came from our second opponent, some dudes who asked Meghan.."So do you practice a lot in the backyard? We heard about the tournament yesterday and just had to get in!". Good one.
I'd say the toss of the day was from Liz who almost made it half way to the board. Simply amazing!
