FLAAAAASSHHH....... FLASH GORDON

June 19th, 2010. Another exciting time in the lives of Chris, Meghan, Ruckus, Mayhem, and our little onion sized fetus/baby Weaver. For my 31st birthday, my wonderfully sweet mother-in-law, Nancy Douglas surprised me again (she always gives the best gifts).....by giving me her Flash Gordon pin ball machine. Amazing! The only trouble was how to get Flash to his new home and then to one of the most awesome places on earth, the Weaver pool house. A perfect place for Flash! After weeks of debate, we pulled the trigger using my parents small trailer without working lights, undersized tires, and no gate. Meggy and I met Uncle Glen over at N's house. After we cut down a few limbs with the chainsaw, (one of which slammed down onto the extension ladder, leaving Glen stranded up in the tree), we put a plan together. By the way Glen is still alive.

Flash Gordon is no lightweight. He weighs in right around 250+ pounds...so with my broken back, and Glenn's torn rotator cuffs we decided to use gliders under each leg and slide it to the front door. Gliders are amazing and we reached the front door with ease before having to heave it up a few stairs and out the front door.

Flash fit perfectly on the trailer. Once he was loaded and strapped down Meghan signed off for quality control. We waved good-bye and headed out attempting to beat the rain. Well 30 seconds after we left the driveway, Nancy called and said the front of the pin ball machine, where the coins would go if it wasn't rigged, was flapping in the wind. What happened to the QC check MW?

Adjustments were made, 43 minutes later we made it to the driveway with only two dozen crazy looks received as cars flew by on JTB, as we dragged behind a Flash Gordon pin ball machine on a tiny trailer at 45 mph. The best part of the story is that we talked all week about if we got him home safely, then how are we going to get him to the pool house? Sure enough, at 10:00 am that morning MW's nephew, a 210 pound football player for Dartmouth college who was home for a few weeks said he wanted to stop by the house to say hello. Boom! God always seems to provide a sucker at just the right time.

Oh how nice it is to have Flash Gordon tucked into his little pool house in the backyard. Hours later, games played, and points galore....time to crash. Good night Flash, see you tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day and the next.................

Cornhole Classic 2010

2010 was the surely the first of many Cornhole Classic's the Weavers will be attending. After a good night's rest, the 10:00 am start was quickly approaching. As we strolled up to the Plantation with high hopes, a Big Bobber filled with drinks, and a purse full of sunscreen, we were confident in our bean tossing abilities after weeks of no practice. The "Cornhole Classic' is a Dreams Come True fundraising event put together by some friends of ours, and probably some others as well, considering it was rather organized. Along the grassy knoll there were 10+ competition board sets, lots of water, and Bono's BBQ. Even the old slip and slide made an appearance.

It was a great event with a good turnout, considering it was a little warm. It was a double elimination tournament and we finished at 2-2 after a quick start on a board made of smooth laquer and high-gloss paint. Not exactly ideal for a playing surface....brilliant. Some friends of ours, Will and Liz accompanied us to this event and performed quite well. That was expected considering Liz's grandfather patented the first cornhole board, and Will played both in college and semi-professionally in Honduras.

For me the quote of the day came from our second opponent, some dudes who asked Meghan.."So do you practice a lot in the backyard? We heard about the tournament yesterday and just had to get in!". Good one.
I'd say the toss of the day was from Liz who almost made it half way to the board. Simply amazing!

Parallel Lives?

It's Sunday morning and I'm sitting in bed, relaxing with the pups. Chris left at 5:30 this morning for Orlando, where he will be spending the day with his co-workers. They have volunteered to help out a 'Wounded Warrior', which is a program set up to help veterans with whatever projects they need done in their home and to make life easier once they have returned from war. Today they are helping out a young man, who lost his leg in Afghanistan, with various home upgrades and making everything more wheelchair accessible. (He has an amazing story, which I hope Chris will blog about when he returns. )
So as I sit here alone, with this Sunday all to myself, I start to think about what I should do with my day. Then my thoughts turn to Chris and the intense manual labor that he is doing this very moment. Instead of feeling his pain, my mind is suddenly filled with pictures of him hard at work and it makes me laugh. Not because I am cruel, but because the images are too hilarious and compelling. It hits me, my husband is doing an Extreme Makeover today! This is most certainly blog worthy.

Who is this Chris Weaver that I am married to? Is he an original, as I believe him to be, or simply a mirror image of someone slightly older and slightly more erratic? I start compiling evidence to prove my theory that Chris Weaver does not just have a "Look Alike" out there, but he is indeed leading a parallel life with TV host, Ty Pennington.
Let's review the evidence.
Both Chris & Ty have a little too much fun doing work around the house. Chris is pictured here covered in drywall, while remodeling a bathroom.
Cut off shirts not only accentuate the arms, but they enable your body to breathe. This is true whether you're hard at work lifting beers or installing hard wood floors.

Life isn't all work and no play. Both Chris and Ty enjoy throwing on a suit and and hitting the town. My research has yet to show whether Ty incorporates knee slides into his dance routine. If so, has he ever contemplated wearing his workman knee pads to a wedding (so that he wouldn't get holes in his rented tux pants). I may never know the answer to this one. All I know is, the orange works for both. Grrrr.

Finally, they both know how to make some noise. Whether moving a bus or playing Hot Foot* at Square One, they can get people to shout on cue.
*Hot Foot is played by placing a lit match at the heel of a friend's flip flop when they aren't looking, backing away, and then waiting for their screams. Please note: This game should only be played with those with a good sense of humor, tough skin, or anyone who has foolishly consumed too much alcohol. Dear Ty,
If you should ever get bored one day, decide to google yourself, and stumble upon this post... I hope that you will not only learn more about your true self, but that you will also consider shaving the flavor saver, as Chris did, well before entering his thirties.

Thoughtfully yours,
Meghan
