L Date = "Lager Tasting"

For the "L" date I took Meggy to a part of town not often visited by the Weavers. North side via Busch Drive. The reason....some Lager Tasting courtesy of the Budweiser Brewery.I've been wanting to go there for a long time and after doing a little research I found they offer free tours every 45 minutes, 363 days of the year. We took the 3:00 pm shift and squeezed in right before a tour bus filled with sixty old goats and gals started pouring into the brewery. The tour was very informative.

We learned all about early beer history, the four generations of Adolphus Busches, prohibition, and my favorite...malt syrup. It was delivered door to door during prohibition as a "syrup". However, the form in which it was bottled allowed it to be easily made into beer by commoners everywhere. We were able to see the large containers where the beer was made. Each container brews 66,000 6 packs per day. We saw the assembly line where the beer was bottled, and also learned that brewmasters taste the beer each hour to ensure its consistency. Not a bad job. At the end of the tour each person was given two glasses of beer in the Budweiser lounge.There were classics like Budweiser, Bud Light, Bud Lime, and some others like Shock Top, Pumpkin Ale, Wild Blue, Amber Bock, Select 55, and Michelob Ultra Pomegranate Raspberry (not highly recommended). The beer was fresh and delicious. My favorite being the Amberbock and Meghan's the Shock Top. The tour was well worth it and we highly recommend it. If you pull the right strings you may even get a paper hat.
