There's More Than One Way To Sign A Guest Book

Guest books come in all shapes and sizes and are usually found in places where there is something to celebrate or something worthy of remembrance. And why not? You want to be able to look back one day and say, "Yep, that guy was there." When signing a guest book, there are a few things to keep in mind.














1. What are the expectations of the Book Owner?
Do they just want a legible name and date or would an intimate message be more appropriate?



2. Will your entry be read before or after you leave?
If you are going to reveal a secret about yourself, I would recommend reserving those for guest books that will be read many years later, if ever, i.e. a Wedding Guest Book. You won't be immediately embarrassed and you can still get it off your chest.



3. What does your body language, while signing, say about your attitude?
Notice Chris' posture here, while signing this guest book at an engagement party. It says, "Why, I'd love to sign your guest book!" The cocked hip tells people waiting behind him, "Maybe you should go grab a drink and come back." It also lets them know that he's confident about his body.



4. Would an embellishment be a nice touch?
Probably not.



Guest books are everywhere these days. If you haven't perfected the art of signing one yet, I would suggest you start working on that. We even have a Guest Book in our Guest Bathroom. That's right, there are things to be remembered and information to be collected. Guest's are asked to sign in and then check the box that applies to the activity that took place. Wash, Brush Teeth, Shower, Other, etc. There is also a place for comments. Comments are key.

Let me tell you a quick story involving great suspense and even greater disappointment. My cousin and his wife were staying with us for the weekend. I don't want to completely throw him under the bus, so for the sake of privacy, we'll call him 'Mark Damiano'. All weekend long 'Mark Damiano' was in and out of the bathroom. We even started to joke around about how many entries he must be racking up in the book. By the end of the weekend, he had coined a whole new term for needing to use the john. "Be right back guys, I have to go sign the guest book". Well you can imagine the anticipation that had been building. As soon as they left, I went to the bathroom to read about what had transpired and what 'Mark Damiano' had to say about it. NOTHING. Blank pages. My cousin knows it was wrong to build it up like that, but this was a classic case of not being prepared. I hope this story is a lesson to all of you out there that stand in a guest book line, looking to your date saying, "I don't know what to say, you sign it." People are waiting on you and people are judging you, so make it good.
